The Gateway ADL kitchen (Activities of Daily Living) has been busy! Cooking activities address so many important areas such as nutrition education, following a recipe, math skills, and using kitchen equipment safely. Cooperation and listening skills contribute to improved social skills. And prep work and sensory/trying new foods are great OT skills! These “real-life skills” encourage maximum independence, a key component for transition at any age level. The classes have enjoyed grilled cheese sandwiches with tomato soup, cupcakes, breakfast items, empanadas and nachos. Everything looked and smelled delicious!
